The strange death of five wild birds such as the spotted-wing dove “Patagioenas maculosa” and the gray thrush “Turdus Chiaguanco”, found in agricultural land and grazing area, has caused concern among the inhabitants of the district of Paca in the province of Jauja, Junín region.

This Monday morning, Eng. Luis Castro Narváez, an official of the SERFOR National Forestry and Wildlife Service, and SENASA specialists, César Vila and Joel Sauñi, arrived at the place duly implemented with biosafety equipment, such as the overalls, gloves, glasses and chinstrap, to extract saliva samples from the corpses of the specimens by means of tracheal swabs that will be sent to the laboratory and whose results will be known within a period of 24 hours. Subsequently, they proceeded to remove the corpses and sanitary burial established according to the regulations.
In this regard, the representatives of SENASA reported that no more dead or sick birds have been found near the place and that preliminary evidence has not been found that these birds have died from bird flu.

“The health alert decreed at the national level requires us to intervene in these cases to prevent avian influenza from spreading to domestic farms or backyard birds. In the Junín region, no positive case has been confirmed so far,” said César Vila.
For his part, the SERFOR official explained that they have coordinated with the Paca Lagoon Coast Guard to monitor the behavior of wild and migratory birds during the health alert period.
