Executive enacts the new Emergency Law

The Chamber of Senators approved the Deputies version of the bill “That extends until June 30, 2022 the validity of the Sanitary Emergency declared by Law number 6524 “That declares a State of Emergency throughout the Territory of the Republic of Paraguay before the Pandemic declared by the World Health Organization due to Covid-19 and administrative, fiscal and financial measures are established. Then it went to the Executive, which in just over three hours ended up enacting the law.

In this way, part of article four of the original bill was eliminated, which established the Ministry of Health, the IPS, the Hospital de Clínicas, the Military Hospital and the Rigoberto Caballero Hospital to carry out the contracting for the replacement in case of resignation, death or retirement. of health personnel until March 31, 2021. The rest of the eight articles remain the same.

Lilian Samaniego, national senator for the ANR, stated that if they modified the initiative again, a month would be lost again. Therefore, they preferred to support the changes made by the deputies even though they did not agree.

“This is urgent. We are witnesses to the number of sick and deceased we register every day. We must give the tools to the Ministry of Health to be able to alleviate the needs”, he affirmed.

Stephan Rasmussen, senator for Patria Querida, said for his part that he considers it irresponsible for the Executive not to have requested his treatment already in November of last year.

Regarding the elimination of part of the fourth article, he pointed out that each State entity can contract by way of exception, without the need for a special law.
