The current vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, was sentenced by a Court of Justice to 6 years in prison, for the crime of fraudulent administration during the 2003-2015 government period.
The Court also disqualified her from holding public office for life.
But the ruling is appealable; since it has not yet been ratified by the Chamber of Cassation and the Supreme Court, so it could take years before Kirchner sets foot in jail.
In addition, Kirchner has Electoral jurisdiction until December 10, 2023, when his term ends.
And although Kirchner could extend her immunity by participating in the 2023 elections, this afternoon after hearing the sentence, the politician said that she will not participate in the electoral contest. (Watch video).
