Uruguayan firefighters attend regional training for hybrid and electric vehicles

With the participation of more than 30 firefighters from 14 Latin American countries, including Uruguay, the face-to-face training aims to train in the attention to incidents with electric and hybrid vehicles. Participants will acquire the necessary skills to replicate what they have learned and carry out training in their countries of origin. Additionally, virtual content will be developed and made available to the public at the Organization of American Firefighters.

As the number of electric vehicles grows in Latin American countries, it is necessary to train response personnel who attend accidents or other types of emergencies with these vehicles. The region seeks to achieve the effective transition and the safe deployment of this new technology, key in the decarbonization of the transport sector.

The regional course on “Incident Operations in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles” is the first of its kind to be taught in the region and is carried out by the MOVE project of the United Nations Environment Program, with the support of the EUROCLIMA+ Program of the European Union and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), in collaboration with the Itaipu Paraguay Technological Park, Itaipu Binacional and the Meritorious Fire Department of Cali.

Uruguay is part of the MOVE regional project through the Ministry of the Environment, a project that has been implemented for three years and has contributed both with technical contributions for the development of electric mobility in Uruguay and with regional exchange and articulation instances. who have collaborated in advancing the regional electromobility agenda.
