Amalio Belmonte, secretary of the UCV, raised the need for that house of studies to rethink itself to face the challenges of 2023; among them a new relationship with the Executive. In his opinion, this does not mean giving up, but reaching honorable agreements in favor of the Academy
The sociologist and secretary of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), Amalio Belmonte, stated that in 2023 it is very probable -and urgent- that elections will be held in that house of studies to elect university authorities, deans and councilors in order to renovate campus.
Belmonte, in an interview broadcast by Televen This Tuesday, December 6, he raised the need for the UCV to reconsider and define some aspects to face the immediate future, such as knowing what academic plans should be developed and innovated; the relationship with the community both internally and externally of the country, as well as relations with the Executive.
He recognized that maintaining a relationship with government authorities is not easy at any time, but he assured that points of agreement should always be sought in favor of the Academy and the country. He said that if significant investments were made to recover the infrastructure, this has a positive impact on strengthening academic activities because there is a better environment to carry them out.
He clarified that the fact that there is a rapprochement with the State does not mean that the UCV kneels or surrenders, but that as a university it must have relations with all sectors, including the government, to reach “honorable agreements” through of the dialogue.

He stressed that it is necessary to work to overcome the divisions that they may have internally and remain united in the face of any position outside the UCV, for which reason he pointed out the importance of talking and rebuilding relations with the new teaching union so that the support of one reinforce the other.
Amalio Belmonte said that, in effect, inappropriate paths were taken and problems were aired in public, which caused the perception of the population to see the UCV as weakened. He commented that the new board of the Teachers Association (Apucv) has a new program and a different approach, an opportunity that the Academy should take to improve dealings with unions and recover unity.
He pointed out that the issue of the minimum wage has been raised to the Minister of University Education, Tibisay Lucena, but he believes that it should be taken to the senior members of the Executive. She stressed that within the government the fragility of what is happening is admitted but they have not yet taken action in this regard.
