Francisco Torrealba, Minister of Labor, indicated that to the extent that the Executive can maneuver economically, the quality of life of Venezuelans can be improved by including the minimum wage. He denied that the country is going to be officially dollarized and said that the salary of a minister is in the order of 700 bolivars. He also added that there is no date to return to Mexico.
The Minister of Labor, Francisco Torrealba, warned that a possible increase in the minimum wage could occur in Venezuela when the State may have the capacity to maneuver economically; something that in his opinion is tied to the possibility of generating wealth through various sources –such as oil production– which in turn depends on the relief of sanctions against the industry.
“We can be calm that, if the process of regularizing the factors of wealth generation is followed (…) If it follows the process that allows our oil not to have to be marketed at a discount, as we are forced to do by sanctions, public finances will be safe they will maintain a recovery process that allows that generation of wealth to be later expressed in a fair distribution and to continue paying attention to problems, including the minimum wage,” said Torrealba.
This was expressed by the head of the Labor portfolio this Tuesday, December 6 in an interview with Globovisión, where he hopes that the dialogue process that is taking place in Mexico (or any other) can generate favorable consequences for the country and its citizens. For this reason, he hopes that the situation in the country can be normalized soon in order to be able to attend to other important issues for Venezuelans.
He considers that the so-called “working class” knows the origin of the “aggression”; who attacks the salary and its defender. He stressed that having President Nicolás Maduro at the head of the country, thanks to his union past, guarantees that whatever income is channeled immediately to citizens.
Francisco Torrealba affirmed that in Venezuela the salary is expressed in bolivars and it is the national currency, which he affirmed must be defended and recovered; therefore, he dismissed an eventual formalization of dollarization in the country.
He said he did not know how much a minister earns and that he earns his salary for being a worker in the Caracas Metro. However, he expressed that the income for the ministers should be around 700 bolivars and added that he does not know if there are salary scales for these public officials, although he did acknowledge that they have certain privileges such as an assigned car and covered food.
Regarding the issue of the 10,000 bolivars that the Executive has promised to retirees and pensioners since 2018, Minister Francisco Torrealba commented that the offices in charge of the Ministries of Planning and Labor are carrying out “sweeps” to find out who is receiving them. corresponds to the benefits. He has already announced that there are several lists, but he clarified that when the numbers are required, the Executive will comply with the disposition.

Torrealba: there is no specific date for a new dialogue in Mexico
Francisco Torrealba, on the other hand, acknowledged that a new date has not yet been set for the delegations to return to Mexico, although he did say that “all dates are good to meet.”
He clarified that, although there is no defined time to return to Mexico, there are conversations that take place through various channels: public, private and bilateral; all oriented by Maduro in order to achieve conditions to have a normality and elections “free of blockade”.
“It is not true that you are going to a free presidential election if there is a sentence that weighs on your head (…) and has a country subjected and punished,” he said.
When asked about a possible release of political prisoners, the also member of the official delegation stressed that in the dialogue “there are no taboo issues” and everything is addressed, but he clarifies that there are priorities to attend to, such as public services.
He asserted that there are issues that advance faster than others and he believes that, with the signing of agreements in the most recent session, it is a reason to be happy because they can open up the possibility of other things and progress progressively on other issues.
Torrealba added that in principle 3,000 million dollars will be released to attend specific projects established such as certain schools and hospitals, as well as the stabilization of the National Electric System, and then some 250 million more will come for the water issue.
