Dengue mosquito stalks three districts

Three districts of the city present the highest indices levels of larval infestation, for which the Government Municipal promotes a campaign to destroy hatcheries in order to prevent diseases such as dengue, zika and chikungunya.

These are the peri-urban districts of Montero Hoyos and Paurito, and District 11 (downtown), which They have more than 20% larval infestation, according to data from the latest entomological survey. This means that 20 out of every 100 homes have breeding sites with mosquito larvae Aedes aegyptitransmitter of these three diseases.

The municipal secretary of Health, Adriana Amelunge, pointed out that this value places the three zones in a situation emergency, so an immediate intervention is required, since the parameters should not exceed 10%.

In this sense, the Municipal Mayor’s Office launched last Friday the campaign For a city without mosquito,
which will last until December 6.
The tasks are focused on the destruction of the containers where the mosquito lays its eggs, such as are: bottles, buckets, swimsuits and pools with stagnant water.
Once this work is completed, the chemical control phase will begin, which consists of fumigation to eliminate the adult mosquito, Amelunge indicated.

The authority insists that fumigation and the campaigns that the authorities can promote are not enough to remove the danger from the houses, but it is necessary the support of the population in the destruction of breeding sites in their homes, which must be done at least once a week because that is the time the vector needs to reproduce.

They ask to review the containers that accumulate water, even those that are not usually common reservoirs for mosquitoes, since the latest entomological surveys reveal that the vector is changing its customs to adapt to new environments and conditions. Apparently he is no longer satisfied with the water retained in buckets, tires or other containers, can now also be in sinks, siphons and washing machines in city houses.

Studies warn that larvae have been found in the containers of the siphons, in the sink drains and even in the glasses used to place thes toothbrushes, because the mosquito only needs a little water to lay its eggs.
Dishes under pots, vases, and plants in jars with water are also very common breeding sites in homes, offices, and hospitals.

The authorities recall that there are four serotypes of dengue (DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4) circulating in the country, so a person can get sick up to four times, with the possibility of a more serious condition.

A person should be suspected of having dengue when presents a high fever accompanied by other symptoms such as headache, pain behind thes eyeballs, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, enlarged lymph nodes, and rash.
