The Biobío Regional Presidential Delegation, based on technical information from Conag and in coordination with the Onemi Regional Directorate, declared a Red Alert for the commune of Santa Juana due to a voracious forest fire, “valid from today and until the conditions of the fire so warrant it”.
With the declaration of this Red Alert, all the necessary and available resources were mobilized, in additional support to what has already been deployed by Conaf, Firefighters and the National System for Disaster Prevention and Response (Sinapred). In this way, action will be taken to control the situation, given the extent and severity of the event.
The mayor of Santa Juana, Ana Albornoz, said she was concerned about the emergency, indicating that “we know that this season is going to be complicated.” in conversation with Radio Biobíothe community chief added that “the fire is in the El Venado sector, an extremely rural sector (…) The fire is in an area of ravines, so that makes it difficult for Conaf, for Firefighters, for the Arauco brigades, to access to sector”.
“Due to the conditions we have, the fire has already crossed the highway and we have already lost a house,” added the building manager.
