After more than two years of experience with an alliance between the University of Applied Sciences (UPC) and Coursera, the global online learning platform, which allowed the benefit of more than 26,000 students from the university, and as part of Following their commitment to improve education in the country, the institutions signed a new agreement in Peru to offer Coursera’s Career Academy to students, teachers and young people starting in 2023. Through this partnership, the UPC will offer access to 5,300 courses from the top universities and companies in the world, including Yale University, Stanford University, Google and Microsoft.
The objective of the UPC-Coursera program is to improve the employability of university graduates and build a qualified and competitive workforce in Peru that is focused on the needs of today’s employers in the digital economy. UPC will be the first and only university in Peru to offer Coursera’s Career Academy, which prepares students for more than 20 highly sought-after digital careers, in approximately six months. UPC students and professionals can explore careers, develop key skills and competencies, build a portfolio of practical projects using tools of the trade, and earn industry-recognized credentials from Google, IBM, Meta, Salesforce, and Intuit to help them land in good job positions.
“The purpose of this alliance between the UPC and Coursera is to contribute to closing the gaps in professional skills and digital skills and thus promote the access of young people to better job opportunities by allowing them to meet the expectations of the labor market,” said the Doctor Edward Roekaert, rector of the UPC. “This agreement will not only allow the UPC to publish content on Coursera, but it also gives us the opportunity to reinforce our flexible and adaptable learning models so that our students develop the skills and competencies that the market expects to see in all professionals”, Roekaert added.
The initiative includes professional training programs focused on demand areas of technology, business, marketing, finance, leadership, among others. The program also includes the Digital Teaching Academy, a curated program in Spanish to help teachers across the region develop digital skills.

According to one recent survey According to Coursera, 89% of global students and recent graduates agree or strongly agree that earning an entry-level professional certificate will help them stand out to employers and secure jobs when they graduate, and 92% of employers agree or strongly agree. that a professional certificate strengthens a candidate’s application. In fact, employers globally said they were 76% more likely to hire a candidate who has earned an industry microcredential.
Since 2021, more than 26,000 students, teachers and collaborators of the UPC-Coursera for Campus alliance have accumulated more than 160,000 course certificates from the best institutions in the world.
Additionally, after signing this agreement, the UPC will start publishing its own courses, thus joining the list of prestigious universities that generate content on the global online learning platform Coursera to share the knowledge of Peruvian experts with the world.
