The Nicaraguan regime and the sanctioned Russian Today (RT in Spanish) news channel signed this Monday, December 5, a memorandum of “understanding” with the objective of “establishing strategic cooperation” between the media of both allied countries.
“In July 2022, we developed the first professional meeting in our country and we have also been advancing in the programming of different RT content on the television channels of the Sandinista media, media of the Citizen Power of Nicaragua,” said Daniel Edmundo Ortega. Murillo, Media Coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council and son of the dictatorial couple.

Victoria Vorontsova, director of Canal RT en Español, expressed that the objective of this memorandum “is to establish strategic cooperation between RT and the Council of Communication and Citizenship of Nicaragua, in the field of development and improvement of television communication media, the increase in the quality of the services produced and provided and the expansion of the horizons of cooperation”.
“With this memorandum we agree to exchange content, provide support for the coverage of the most important events and news in our countries, also this memorandum will help us to exchange experiences on a regular basis,” added Vorontsova.
Present at the signing ceremony were Alberto Mora from Nicaragua, from the Communicators Movement, and the son of the presidential couple Juan Carlos Ortega Murillo. On behalf of RT en Español, Victoria Vorontsova, director of Canal RT en Español; Alexander Luchaninov, deputy director of RT in Spanish; and Karina Melikyan, Director of International Cooperation.
According to the propaganda media of the dictatorial family, the delegation of Russian journalists is in Nicaragua with the objective of “developing an exchange and training program with the Sandinista Media.” But the journalist Sergio Marín Cornavaca does not believe that this is the purpose of his visit.
José Ulloa, a media analyst for the Voces del Sur organization, considered that the arrival of the propagandists of the Russian regime could be to “fine-tune” some strategies to “violate citizen rights” and “control the citizenry” or “fine-tune the pencil to repress” through information technology. “I don’t see good things (for said visit),” he told Article 66.
