Five condemned buildings located in the San Miguel neighborhood, Calidonia corregimiento, in the province of Panama, are being demolished by the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot).
The demolition of these properties is carried out through contract 28-22, which was awarded to the company Centro Equipos SA, which after going through the legal procedures manages to start these works.
This contract covers labor, equipment and administration for the demolition of the five block buildings known as Chame (38 apartments), Capira 1 (76 apartments), Capira 2 (76), Chorrera (37) and San Carlos (40 ).
According to Miviot, despite having offered solutions to several families in the San Carlos mansion, it is still inhabited, with a conviction order, since its occupants refuse to leave the rooms.
Marcos Suira, Miviot’s national director of Engineering and Architecture, explained that after the demolition the company must dispose of the rubble, including extracting the foundations of the structures dating from 1945 and ending with the leveling of the land.
He added that these works entail a total investment of 860 thousand balboas and have a duration of 150 calendar days, from the date of the order to proceed, which was last August 1.
