The political parties with parliamentary representation met this Monday morning at the former National Congress to address the continuation of the constituent process. The appointment ended in the afternoon without reaching an agreement. The President of the Senate, alvaro elizalde (PS), pointed out that there was “significant progress”, but that there is still no consensus on the drafting mechanism. Meanwhile, the communities will meet again tomorrow.
“Although there is not yet a specific agreement, I can point out that there is significant progress towards an agreement. I can point out since we started these talks that, at least personally, I am optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement. for Chile. I don’t want to generate false expectations with this,” said the Senate helmsman at a press outlet.

There is no consensus on mechanism
Regarding the mechanism, Elizalde pointed out that there are still “significant differences.” The ruling party proposes that the body that drafts the new Constitution be 100% elected, while the opposition proposes that it be mixed (50 experts elected by Congress and 50 people elected by popular election).
“There is a substantive difference between the parties,” said the president of the Senate.
