Cuban Conflict Observatory announces winners of contest on GAESA

MIAMI, United States. — Ten Cubans residing on the Island obtained prizes for their participation in the contest What do you know about GAESA?launched last August by the Cuban Conflict Observatory.

The organization pointed out that up to November 30, the closing of the call, 422 responses had been received. To guarantee the safety of the participants, they were allowed to identify themselves with pseudonyms, although always specifying their age and province of residence.

The winner of the first prize —consisting of 300 US dollars— was Mirna Ávila, a resident of the province of Santiago de Cuba; the second prize —250 dollars— went to the account of Walther Aguilera, a resident of Havana; while three third prizes of $100 dollars were awarded: Daysi Beltrán (Las Tunas), Octavio Torres (Villa Clara) and Victoria Pérez (Santiago de Cuba).

According to the Cuban Conflict Observatory, five contestants (Nelson Hernández, Amanda Diéguez, Damaris Vidal, Yasmari Labrada and Osvaldo Riverón) were awarded mentions consisting of telephone recharges.

Contest participants What do you know about GAESA? They had to answer any of the following questions: Do you have any explanation of why so much is invested in hotels if since 2018 half of the rooms remain empty? Why wasn’t the money allocated to the hotels invested in maintenance of the thermoelectric plants, in food production, housing construction, in health and medicine, or in the lightning rod system based on Supertanqueros de Matanzas? Why doesn’t GAESA report to the Comptroller General of the Republic of Cuba? How do you think these problems will be resolved with GAESA?

The Business Administration Group (GAESA) is an umbrella company controlled by some Cuban military generals that operates in the tourism, financial investment, import, export, and remittance sectors of the Cuban economy.

Experts have calculated that GAESA represents 60% of the national economy and more than 40% of hotel rooms in Cuba, without the obligation to account for its income to the Cuban people and without them knowing where that money is going. .
