SANTO DOMINGO.- The former president of the Senator, Amable Aristy Castro, died this Sunday of a heart attack.
The death of Aristy Castro was confirmed by the senator for La Vega for the Social Christian Reform Party (PRSC), Ramón Rogelio Genao.
It transpired that Aristy Castro had attended the inauguration of the Plaza Marlin Shopping Center, in Verón, and that upon arriving at his home in Higuey he felt severe pain for which he was taken to the Perozo clinic, where he died.
Aristy Castro, also known as the Cacique de Higüey, was one of the most elected politicians in the country and became president of the Senate of the Republic for several periods. He was also secretary of the Dominican Municipal League and president of the Liberal Reform Party (PLR).
Amable was also a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2008 presidential elections, in which Dr. Leonel Fernández was the winner.
Friendly Aristy, was born on May 10, 1949, and was the son of Don Luis Aristy, a driver by profession, and Doña Oliva Castro, a housewife.
At the age of 9, he began his working life, as a clerk in his uncle “Chichí” Aristy’s grocery store. He later works as a street vendor, shoeshine boy, janitor, municipal employee, secretary of the Higüey Prosecutor’s Office and later a bank messenger in which he becomes his manager.
He joined the then Reformist Party in 1976. His political career began in 1982 when he was elected deputy of the Republic for the province of La Altagracia, at just 33 years old, being re-elected in 1986.
