A delegation of the representatives of the liabilities on the board of directors of the Box of Professionals appeared before the special commission created for the treatment of the bill on the common pension system of the Chamber of Senators. One of the representatives of the Odel Abisab delegation exposed the position “radically contrary to what has been called the express law” of the Caja de Profesionales.
The first reason with which they based their rejection was because the bill plans to cuts for retirees that they are “a tremendous injustice to enshrined and acquired rights for people who no longer have a way to defend themselves.”
Abisab also mentioned that these cuts expose the Caja de Profesionales to future lawsuits, taking into account that “it may very likely entail legal and even constitutional violations.”
Another of the representatives for the liabilities as an alternate was Robert Long. One of the topics she referred to was that of the new professionals. “What has been done since 2004 with the new professions? Happily the University releases and gives titles every year and these new professionals have the obligation to register in the box. What has the Fund or the laws done to try to give them maximum protection? We can only say: nothing ”, she maintained.
