One of the most affected population centers is Marcavalle, in the district of Pucará, province of Huancayo. The authorities report that their crops, potatoes, were planted three months ago, however, due to lack of water, they do not grow and more than 50% was lost with the last frosts that fell.

We should already be growing the products, but as can be seen, the crops are not growing and, at the rate we are going, there will be no production for the next harvest,” said the mayor of the town of Marcavalle, Flor María Cenzano Tapia.
Only in Marcavalle, there are more than 200 native potato producers, on average each farmer sows between 7 and 10 hectares, however, due to lack of rain, some preferred to wait and in other cases more than half of their crops were lost.
