Adequacy of standards guarantees the quality of Brazilian products

Adequacy of standards guarantees the quality of Brazilian products

The advancement of technology provides the market with more and more sophisticated products, which follow the demand of users and consumers. As a result, there are some processes that need to be followed, such as compliance with quality and safety standards and regulations. In this scenario, the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) works to ensure that these products always perform better, certifying the competence of the products that reach the Brazilian market.Adequacy of standards guarantees the quality of Brazilian products

“More than just certifying, from the 80s and 90s, when the Brazilian market grew so much, there was no way for an institute to just certify products. So, Inmetro took a position even higher than that, it oversees this whole certification issue. Today there are private companies that certify products and Inmetro monitors these organizations, verifies if they are carrying out the tests, if they have technical competence, and, with that, bring information to our consumer, which is the guarantee of quality ”, explains the president of Inmetro, Marcos Heleno Guerson, in an interview with the program Brasil em Pauta, which airs this Sunday (4), on TV Brasil.

During the interview, Guerson talks about the quality infrastructure, which is the combination of initiatives that help ensure that a country’s products and services meet market requirements, in addition to offering confidence to the consumer.

“For a company to invest in quality, it needs a support that, worldwide, is called quality infrastructure, that’s what supports it to be able to work with quality. What does this infrastructure involve? Metrology, you have to be able to measure it; standardization, you need standards, if there were no standardization, every company would have to manufacture its own screws and this does not happen because the screw is standardized, there is a standard. This guarantees that a company, like Embraer, will be able to bring part of its plane from anywhere in the world, because it will fit. This is guaranteed by metrology, by standardization. And the third pillar is the conformity assessment”, said the president of Inmetro, clarifying that the conformity assessment is what guarantees that the process, product or service meets the requirements pre-established in the norms.

toy certification

Inmetro’s work is in people’s daily lives, from large operations to simple day-to-day activities, including recreational ones. With the advancement of technological innovation and the strengthening of the toy market in Brazil and in the world, the certification of products in this sector has become increasingly important and urgent, also due to its complexity and target audience – children up to 14 years old.

As the end of year festivities approach, a time when exchanging gifts is a tradition, this issue becomes even more relevant. “Within Inmetro regulations, one of them is the toy regulation. Due to the danger it can cause, the risk it causes, because it will be handled by children, many of them even under 5 years old, so they are consumers who have no way of knowing if that product is not releasing toxic paint, if the piece, if you let go, he will swallow. So, understanding this risk, we have a safety regulation for this product”, said Guerson.
