The Family Prosecutor and president of the Promoter Group for Coexistence Without Violence in Educational Institutions of Huancavelica, Ana Villanueva, stated that the high rate of cases of adolescent pregnancy is due to the lack of guidance, which has allowed the increase in cases during the pandemic.
EARLY PREGNANCY
According to the HIS report from the Huancavelica Regional Health Directorate (DIRESA), corresponding to the years 2020 and 2021 and from January to October 2022, of every 100 pregnant women in the Huancavelica region, 12 are adolescents.
“It is a number that worries and should worry the authorities, since it reflects the lack of orientation that adolescents have in relation to these issues, the consequences of a pregnancy at an early age and the responsibilities that it entails, said the prosecutor.

He added: “The figures shown by the Huancavelica region are 3.9% higher than the national record, so it is necessary for the incoming authorities to take these social problems more seriously.”
The national average is 8.9%, while in Huancavelica it is 12.8%, which represents 3.9% above the national average.
“The consequences of an adolescent pregnancy is that the minors decide, for the most part, to drop out of school, due to economic dependence they have to look for some form of work, and because they did not finish their studies, they lose job opportunities, which, in many cases, generates violence within the home.”
