“Unfortunately, in its biased report on freedom of the press and expression, the hemispheric mission reports having received information that in Peru the media are free to inform and misinform without any type of censorship. In his unusual pronouncement, he relegates the government’s lack of openness with the press to the background.”he added.

For this reason, the Association of Journalists of Peru deplored that the spirit of the preliminary report presented to the OAS Permanent Council does not identify any threat against the profession.

“For all these reasons, it strongly calls our attention that the perception of the OAS Mission, in terms of freedom of expression in Peru, does not correspond to the reality that unfortunately exists today in the country or to the standards that govern the professional practice of journalism and communication in other democratic countries of the region”sentenced.
