Al Rahyan, Dec 3 (EFE).- Midfielder Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gómez, substituted at the start of the second half of the Argentina-Australia game by Lisandro Martínez, suffers a right ankle injury that will be evaluated in the next few hours.
The Sevilla player “has a big problem in his ankle and he was changed, although at the same time I felt that we needed something else on the pitch,” explained coach Lionel Scaloni about the player’s replacement.
Scaloni revealed that Ángel Di María, who missed the round of 16 match with Australia due to his overload in the quadriceps of his left leg “could reach the quarterfinal against the Netherlands.”
“It was tempting to have him on the bench but having made him play was not getting him or us anywhere,” explained the Argentina coach who did not want to force the Juventus footballer. EFE
