Five surprises in the soccer world cup

Llena de sorpresas, la primera semana de Qatar 2022

CDMX, Mexico-.Two weeks of the biggest football party and this has already been a World Cup full of unexpected moments. Cubanet has prepared a summary of what we consider to be five moments to remember from the event and probably remain in the history of soccer.

1. The first match refereed by women

Stéphanie Frappart from France, Karen Díaz from Mexico and Neuza Back from Brazil will go down in the football history books for being the first shortlisted referee in a World Cup of the discipline. Despite all the restrictions and human rights violations against women, the World Cup in Qatar will be remembered for this historic milestone.

The match between Costa Rica and Germany, third in the group round, was refereed by Frappart, Díaz and Back. This match will not only be historic because of the referees, but also because it meant the elimination of Germany and Costa Rica.

Salima Mukansanga from Rwanda and Yamashita Yoshimi from Japan also participate in the World Cup making decisions on the field.

2. Japan beat world champions.

The Japanese have been the great surprise of the Asian continent in the World Cup. To begin with in their presentation they beat the historic Germany with a score of 2-1. Although later it was thought that it had been a lucky bell, since they lost against Costa Rica.

But the Japanese were ready to beat another world champion. To qualify, Japan needed to beat Spain and they came back to win. Whatever happens, this World Cup will remain in their football history books as the one in which they beat the European powers. And the thing is that the emotion has been so great that even the ambassador of Japan in Mexico went to the Angel of Independence to celebrate, despite being the only Japanese there.

3. Morocco reaches the round of 16.

Very little was heard about the Moroccan team in the World Cup forecasts, but they qualified for the round of 16. The African team not only qualified first in the group, but also eliminated one of the favorite teams to be world champions, Belgium, and sent Croatia to second place in the group.

It is the first time that Morocco has passed the group stage since 1986. The celebrations of the Moroccans in Belgium and France got out of control and ended in unrest in various cities of those countries.

4. Saudi Arabia beats Argentina

What were the chances that Saudi Arabia would beat Messi’s Argentina? Furthermore, this is not the only thing that the Arab team achieved. Arabia maintained its chances of qualifying until the last moment and although it lost to Mexico, it did not allow them to win and therefore the Aztecs did not advance.

Without a doubt, the video of the technical talk at halftime against Argentina will not be forgotten, where its director yelled at everyone in that dressing room and ended up motivating them to defeat one of the favorite teams to win the World Cup.

5. Germany: two World Cups without qualifying for the round of 16.

It is not yet known all the consequences that this second elimination will cause in the german soccer. Do the teams know how to play him? Have the distances been shortened so much that Germany has lost the advantages it had? Four years ago Mexico beat them in the first game during , and now it was Japan.
