Conclusions of the Congress of the New Epoch

The native peoples delivered this Saturday the conclusions and concrete proposals for the benefit of the Venezuelan indigenous population to the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.

From the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Park, Rodríguez pointed out that: «Indigenous people cannot be isolated from the future of our Homeland, in these towns is our reason for being. He affirmed that the participation of indigenous peoples is fundamental in the Venezuelan struggles against the capitalist model and its effects on society and the environment.

In this sense, he highlighted that the participation of President Maduro in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) brought to the world the voice of Latin American indigenous peoples and their knowledge to stop the current climate crisis. .

The conclusions and concrete proposals of this Congress of the New Era 2022, Indigenous chapter will be delivered to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro for his review and approval.

For her part, the Minister for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, in charge of delivering the document containing the proposals to the vice president, specified that more than 1,500 delegates from 35 indigenous peoples from 21 Venezuelan states were present at the congress, she said. AVN.

In addition, he explained that 10 discussion tables were held with three focal points: territorial, where the delivery of land titles to indigenous citizens was contemplated, protection of indigenous peoples in border areas and of a strategic nature such as the Mining Arc, the preservation of virgin areas and sacred sites, among others; the economic, where the activity of communal councils and their protection was discussed; and the social, where the protection of indigenous children and other issues were addressed.

Vidal thanked the participation of the vice president and other national authorities such as the Minister of Education, Yelitze Santaella; the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas; the sectoral vice president of Government for Social and Territorial Socialism, Mervin Maldonado, among others.

Representatives of the Piaroa, Pemón, Wayúu, Warao, Cariña, Yibi, Bari, Cumanagoto, Chaima, Ayamán, among others, indigenous peoples participated in the Indigenous Chapter of the Congress of the New Era 2022.
