The president was also questioned about his longing for a new Constitution. In this regard, he expressed that this has to be in accordance with the new societies that have emerged in the country since 1993, the year in which the current Peruvian Magna Carta was established.
“Do you know what year this constitution is from? It’s from ’93. Times have changed, don’t you agree? Then, According to the times and according to the new societies, their constitution must also be present”replied the head of state.
In that line, Castillo indicated that the new constitution must give space to the citizens of the towns and ensure decentralization. In addition, the president clarified that, despite having been elected with the current constitution, he will not violate the people’s request for a constituent assembly.
