New traffic regulation confronts motorcyclists and CDMX authorities

New traffic regulation confronts motorcyclists and CDMX authorities

On the part of the authorities of the capital, both the Security and Mobility secretariats ensure that the measures are aimed at reducing fatal accidents in the face of a growing number of deaths on fast roads, although it also obeys the approval process towards the new law federal mobility and road safety.

“In the record we have on motorcycle traffic events, we have seen in particular that there is a concentration of fatal traffic events on controlled access roads, all these modifications will be published in the official gazette,” said Andrés Lajous, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City.

Motorcyclists accept rules, but reject affectation

Members of motorcycle associations and specialists in the field assure that there are many points of the new regulation in which there is a coincidence, such as the use of protective equipment, a driver’s license and the obligation to contract insurance, however, what keeps “stuck” the dialogue is in the capacity of the motorcycles that can circulate on roads such as Circuito Interior, Viaducto or Periférico.

This is the case of the Motociclistas Unidos association of Mexico City, from which it is considered that it is necessary for motorcyclists to be regulated; it is highlighted that they have promoted the issue of licenses.

Alberto Ignacio Carrillopresident of Motociclistas Unidos, points out that there is broad agreement with the capital’s authorities that it is necessary to toughen safety standards for this sector.

“We are not against the three schemes proposed in the traffic regulations: such as licenses, insurance and helmets. Since a regulation is needed, but you have to work on a regulation, because we have had licenses for more than 20 years without the authority knowing if you know how to use a vehicle or not, ”he explained.

For the mentioned John Rides, video blogger and specialist in motorcycles, the so-called “terror rounds” recorded at the end of October and beginning of November that ended in clashes with police elements and various violations of traffic regulations were a trigger for the authorities to now become more strict with the motorcyclists.

“The sensation that they generate in me (the terror shots) is like a theme of anarchy, it is like a bomb about to explode, there is only a need for there to be an excuse for it to get out of control and end badly; this year there were people carrying imitation guns and real guns why would you bring guns to a shoot? there were people without helmets,” he noted.

I agree with the regularization of the motorcycle issue in the city, we are citizens with responsibilities and the regulations must be followed”
