Applications that provide the delivery service point to the jungle of the country

As a consequence of the pandemic, people changed some consumption habits, stopped visiting restaurants, stores, supermarkets, among others, and opted for products that arrive at their homes. The various digital channels helped this change. In 2021, according to Ipsos, 46% of people who made purchases online in urban areas of the country did so through .

As a result of this dynamism and new needs, the apps have found an opportunity to expand, and today they have a presence in various parts of Peru. Two of the most important have targeted the Peruvian jungle for its advance: Y .

The head of Restaurants for the Pacific Region in Rappi, Micaela Rivero, explained that, in the case of the company she represents, she plans to enter Iquitos early next year.

The entrance to this part of Peru is a challenge for them that they are willing to assume, since they see it as an opportunity due to the high demand that exists in the area.

“It is quite attractive because it is a city with almost 400,000 inhabitants and with a wide range of restaurants. We really see a great opportunity and demand from the population, so it is worth investing in alternatives for offices. We also target tourists who visit the city,” said Micaela Rivero.

On the side of PedidosYa Peru, although at the moment it already has a presence in the jungle, it is evaluating adding a city in that area next year. In addition, the company is evaluating the central highlands as part of its expansion.

Currently, this application has participation in 23 cities, being the company in the sector with the most presence in the Peruvian market. A milestone for the company was to become the first to enter Iquitos.

They have recently entered Carabayllo and Callao. They have also expanded coverage in Comas and San Juan de Miraflores.

The Marketing Director of PedidosYa, Macarena Poblete, stated that Peru is one of the countries in the region where the telephone is still widely used to place orders, which becomes an opportunity for this application and a challenge to gain greater presence. .

PREVIEW AND PREFERENCES

Although the growth of the sector has slowed down compared to what was registered in 2020 (an exceptional year due to the restrictions to mobilize), the progress rates continue to be high, at least for Rappi, which expects to increase the user and restaurant base by more than 25%

According to the company, people’s favorites when placing an order are hamburgers, pizzas, fried chicken and grilled chicken. To this is added the increase in the purchase of sushi, which has surprised.

“In Lima, the average ticket is more than S/30. In provinces, it amounts to S/25. The provinces that use delivery outside Lima the most are Arequipa, Trujillo and Piura”, says Micaela Rivero.

In the case of PedidosYa, to the item of food dishes, similar to those mentioned above, are also added the shipments they make from supermarkets, pharmacies, pet stores and convenience stores, among others, which in recent months have shown a higher rate of growth driven, among other things, by offers and the variety of products offered.

“Our business is in a much more stable and robust stage and at a time of sustained growth in Peru,” said Macarena Poblete.

For this sector, holidays are a good ally, as well as weekends and game days, such as those of the World Cup, because they are times when orders tend to increase.

NEW BET

A few months ago, presented Cabify Logistics, a corporate delivery segment, aimed at transportation and delivery.

The head of the brand in Peru, Jorge Delgado, explained to this newspaper that they are targeting companies of all sizes and that have digital sales channels “that choose us as allies for their products.”

“We work with restaurants; but we are not a sales intermediary. From our app no orders are made from any restaurant. We seek to solve the problem of food delivery to restaurants that take orders with other sales channels of their own, whether through the web, WhatsApp or their own app”, he explained.
