Ayacucho: they set fire to the Huanta penal unit in rejection of the release of those involved in the murder of a schoolboy

This afternoon, December 2, a group of protesters set fire to the headquarters of the basic criminal unit of Huanta, which belongs to the Superior Court of Justice of Ayacucho, in the midst of the 24-hour strike called by the People’s Defense Front of Huanta, in protest against the prosecutor’s decision to release those involved in the murder of Daniel Quispe Bautista, an 18-year-old schoolboy.

Channel N reported that the fire caused damage to the infrastructure, which is an old house. In images of the aforementioned medium, it was possible to see that a group of firefighters and residents of the place managed to put out the flames.

According to the journalistic report, a group of protesters entered the judicial headquarters that was closed due to the called strike. Once inside the module, they set a fire, which caused damage to the files and furniture.

On the eve, citizens and relatives of Daniel Quispe (18)murdered in the community of Aycas, The offices of the Public Ministry and the Criminal Investigation Division (Depincri) were burned.

Violence is not supported, but you also have to understand the population that calls for justice. How many children have been raped in the province of Huanta, how many deaths and there is no final result. The poor do not have justice and there are prosecutors who do not understand the Quechua language. That is really discrimination for us.”, said Junior Vega, president of the Huanta Defense and Development Front, who assured that the strike would take place peacefully.

confrontation with police

However, also in the midst of the strike, the protesters clashed this Friday with agents of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), in the streets of the province of Huanta.

The event occurred half a block from the police station Huanta, where there was a security cordon made up of around 35 police officers. A group of people threw stones and insults at the agents. Meanwhile, another side sought to remain calm and demanded a peaceful protest.

In response, police officers used tear gas canisters against the protesters. The gases affected two women, who were transferred to the Huanta Hospital.

Why do people protest in Huanta?

Daniel Quispe Bautista was murdered by a classmate from his school in the Aycas community. According to Channel N, the victim met with three friends on the afternoon of Friday, November 25, but never returned to his house. Apparently, there was an argument between them that had a fateful outcome.

In the middle of the fight one of his friends pulled out a knife and stabbed him to death. Faced with this situation, the schoolchildren – minors – buried the body of Daniel Quispe in the garden of a house, located in the town of Aycas.

It was one of the students who confessed to the crime and revealed the place where the young man’s body was buried. Despite the fact that the Police captured two of the three involved, The Prosecutor’s Office released the minors.
