Weeks ago, the Government had announced that the public transport it would increase 40% as of this month; however, in the last few hours, the new Minister of Transportation, Diego Giuliano, confirmed that the increase will take place early next year.
From the Executive Power, they notified that the public transport will increase from January, meaning that citizens will have to pay more for the transport service at the beginning of the year.
“An increase of 40% is foreseen in the public transport by the beginning of 2023. It was in December, but it took place at the beginning of 2023,” Giuliano said in dialogue with Radio La Red.
The minister also defended the last increase that occurred in August, which was also 40%. In this regard, Giuliano considered that transportation was in the “biggest crisis” worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it was necessary to “accompany essential workers.”
In this context, the Minister of Transportation recalled that the increase had already been proposed, given that “the current rate is $25 and has a very large distortion throughout the country.”
On the other hand, Giuliano, who replaced the outgoing Alexis Guerrera, questioned the administration of Mauricio Macri for eliminating “practically the transport subsidies to the interior”, which caused, according to the minister, “a great distortion in the entire system”.
In contrast, he supported the measures taken by President Alberto Fernández, in relation to subsidies: “President (Alberto) Fernández increased the interior transport subsidy by 1,200%. We started in 2019 with an account of $6,000 million and today we have $46 billion,” he said.

In the transportation systemthe current rate for buses, depending on the distance covered, is as follows:
- Up to 3 kilometers, it would go from $25.20 to $35.30.
- Between 3 and 6 kilometers, it would increase from $28 to $39.20.
- From 6 to 12 kilometers, it will go from $29.40 to $41.20.
- Between 12 and 27 kilometers, it will increase from $30.80 to $43.15.
- Over 27 kilometers, it will go from $32.20 to $45.10.
For its part, the train ticket, according to the line, has the following value:
- Mitre, Sarmiento and San Martín lines: $17.25.
- Urquiza Line: $11.25.
- Roca and Belgrano Sur lines: $10.75.
- Belgrano North Line: $9.50.
