Successful, beautiful and, above all, DJ and producer. She is La Paz Yohana Henry Blacut (31), known as Nina Schatz in the ‘underground’ scene and one of the first women to take control of the best electronic parties in Bolivia.

In a decade, his Latin energy made the nine departments vibrate and traveled through Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Panama and the United Kingdom. It also plays on Spotify and other digital platforms with more than 30 productions recorded with independent labels from countries in Asia, Europe and America. She tells us her story.

How does your history with music begin?
It begins in 1996, when I took my first steps in classical dance and trained as a dancer for a decade. That was my direct contact with music at the beginning, until at the age of 21 I rediscovered the stage from another position.

Some friends guided me, showing me the first things about ‘djing’, and then I met DJ Mero Mero, who officially introduced me to the market and the electronic scene.

What does it mean to be a DJ?
It is a combination of art, technique and dedication. You must have a musical ear, taste and, above all, understanding of the people, the place and the moment in which the mix is performed.

What is your style?
My style is guided by the melodies and cadences of different musical sounds; I like the Latin energy, the percussion and the tribal movements, but also the sounds with melodic and atmospheric progressions.

What inspires you?
Different moments of life and experiences, as well as the music of artists that I follow.

Who do you follow?
Before going to electronic parties, I was already following the French duo Daft Punk, and in my more adult stage, the British trio Above & Beyond, which to this day is my greatest musical inspiration.

What is the greatest joy that music gave you?
It is difficult to mention just one, because it gave me the opportunity to see my entire country, travel the world and live from this wonderful art. So the most beautiful part of this adventure is leading a lifestyle full of unique experiences.

Being a woman in this market, advantage or disadvantage?
It’s a bit of both. At first it was challenging to enter a medium
dominated by males, many times I received comments of “for
being a girl has advantages”, but, over time, I managed to validate myself and
earn a place in this scene.

How is the electronic movement after the pandemic?
The first post-pandemic stage was difficult, but after recovering in those months, people are more involved and willing to support the movement. I think if anything we got stronger.

How do you ‘read’ and connect with the public at an event?
The energy that you emanate is the greatest source of communication and the conduit is music. Therefore, I transmit that energy and love, and people receive it in a great way.

What characterizes the Bolivian public?
It is very varied and different in each city. I always get love
in different expressions.

And to the crossing?
The cruceño is passionate and dedicated. Santa Cruz de la Sierra is one of my favorite cities and what I receive is truly unique.

What do you dream of, artistically and personally?
In music, growing with an intercontinental projection and making a career in Europe or Asia; and, personally, to continue enjoying and living from my
passion, creating new experiences and leaving a positive impact
in the people around me.

Do you see yourself in Tomorrowland or the Ultra?
I would definitely like to be a part of one of those festivals.
