The keys to the conflict between Samuel García and the Congress of Nuevo León

The keys to the conflict between Samuel García and the Congress of Nuevo León

the shortlist

On November 8, and without the support of the EMECist bench, the Nuevo León Congress endorsed the shortlist of candidates to head the state Attorney General’s Office, which it would later refer to the local president.

In it was included the PRI member Adrián de la Garza, a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and who has more than 25 years in public service, in which he has served as attorney of State Justice and, in two trienniums, mayor of his hometown, Monterrey.

Also on the list were: the former Deputy Attorney General for Public Prosecutions, Pedro Arce; the former director of the State Investigation Agency, Guadalupe Saldaña and the former secretary of the regional City Council, Genaro García.

The veto came from Egypt

However, García Sepúlveda did not have to wait to return from his work tour of Egypt, where he participated in the world climate summit, to veto PRI member De la Garza Santos.

Javier Navarro, Secretary General of the Government, was in charge of notifying the State Congress of the local president’s response. In an official letter, Samuel García realized that he would exercise his constitutional right to stop the inclusion of his former opponent for the New Leonese governorship, De la Garza, in the selection process.

“The Prosecutor’s Office should not be a political quota, because the responsibility of guaranteeing the security and justice of Nuevo León falls on that institution. Whoever is appointed prosecutor must have an independent profile, prepared, professionally trained, with technical experience, willing to coordinate with the Civil Force,” Samuel García said in the official letter.

“It cannot, for any reason, respond to political parties, much less be one of the main actors in the old politics. For this reason, I have decided, making use of the powers that the constitution gives me, to veto the inclusion of Adrián de la Garza in the final shortlist that will be voted on in Congress,” added the royal governor, who shared the full document on Facebook, last November 11.
