The Buenos Aires justice closed this Tuesday a sanatorium located in Lavalle 1686, in the heart of the city, where 7 corpses were found in an advanced state of decomposition due to damage to the refrigeration chambers.
The Fiscal Unit Specialized in Environmental Matters (Ufema), temporarily in charge of Hernán Biglino, ordered an inspection at the Ramón Cereijo Sanatorium of the BASA Network, following complaints from neighbors about the generation of fetid odors that affected adjoining homes. , and harmed environmental conditions, said an official statement.
The inspection was carried out by the Judicial Investigations Corps of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Crimes Against Health Division of the City Police, with the participation of inspectors from the General Directorate of Supervision and Control (DGFyC), General Directorate of Environmental Control (Dgconta) and personnel from the Ministry of Health.
In the procedure it was verified that the establishment was operating despite the validity of a closure imposed by the DGCFyC dated 09/21/2021, and it was established that the nauseating odors came from a sector where 7 corpses were kept without proper refrigeration and maintenance conditions.
The cessation of the activity of the sanatorium was ordered, with the preventive closure of the enclosure where the bodies were found, after verifying the causes of the deaths and the pertinent documentation.
It was also verified that all deaths were due to natural causes, verifying that the oldest death was more than a month old.
Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed tonight the transfer of the bodies to the judicial morgue and to other private establishments with cold rooms.
The cessation of the activity of the sanatorium was ordered, with the preventive closure of the enclosure where the bodies were found, after verifying the causes of death and the pertinent documentation, until the order of relocation to another establishment in good conditions is complied with. or provisionally in the Judicial Morgue, with the notification of the relatives and the intervening Court.
Likewise, documentation and elements of the illicit maneuvers verified were seized, which prosecutor Biglino qualified prima facie as constituting the contraventions provided for in arts. 56 and 82 paragraph “a” of the Contravencional Code, accusing the Director of the Sanatorium, as well as the legal entity that operates the establishment.
