Socialist deputy Daniel Manouchehri announced the request for an investigative commission in the Chamber of Deputies to address alleged fraud and contraband in the new La Polar scandal. In recent days, various transnational clothing companies have denounced that the department store is selling counterfeit or second-hand garments with their brands, accusing the low quality of the products.
“The facts are serious. It is not tolerable that millions of people today are in the unknown if the products they bought are fake or second-hand products. Customs talks about possible smuggling that would involve La Polar. Once again, the department store is involved in a scandal that affects millions of consumers,” Manouchehri said.
In this line, the member of the Economic Commission of the Chamber confirmed that, “in light of the facts, I have requested an investigative commission from the Chamber of Deputies to investigate possible counterfeiting, fraud and contraband by the department store La Polar. In this way we are going to monitor and find out about the serious antecedents that circulate through the media.”
In the request, the deputy for the Coquimbo Region will summon the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, and the following services: Financial Analysis Unit, National Customs Service, National Consumer Service (SERNAC), Investigative Police of Chile (PDI ), Public Ministry and Internal Revenue Service (SII). Without prejudice to other competent bodies related to the operations of the company La Polar SA and others related to the sale of counterfeit products in Chile.
