Hearing in the Panama Papers case is suspended to carry out international evidence practices

The Superior Court for Settlement of Criminal Cases of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, approved to carry out evidence practices at the international level in the case known as the Panama Papers, for which the hearing scheduled for the alternate date of December 6 to 9, 2022 will not be held.

The Third Criminal Case Settlement Court of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, in charge of Judge Baloísa Marquínez, is following this criminal case against 32 citizens for the alleged commission of a crime against the economic order, in the form of money laundering.

In this case, the Third Settlement Court for Criminal Cases declared the extinction of the criminal action in favor of 3 defendants and issued a provisional dismissal for 8 defendants.

The investigation of this criminal proceeding is related to the alleged leak of documents from a Panamanian law firm and arose at the beginning of 2016.
