The former agent of the National Intelligence Directorate (DINA) and lieutenant colonel (r) of Carabineros, Richard Lawrence, passed away Thursday at Dipreca Hospital. Lawrence was serving sentences for crimes against humanity.
The Supreme Court sentenced Lawrence to more than 400 years in prison for 160 causes linked to the dictatorship. The justice system sentenced the former DINA agent for, among other crimes, the disappearance of the militant of the Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) Alfonso Chanfreaugrandfather of the former spokesperson for the Coordinating Assembly of Secondary Students (ACES) Victor Chanfreau.
He was also convicted of the murder of MIR militants Alejandro de la Barra and Ana María Puga. Justice also sentenced him for the kidnapping of the Communist Party (PC) militant Reinalda Pereira.
Lawrence fled from justice in 2014 and remained a fugitive until 2020. On January 10 of that year, he turned himself in to OS-9 of the Carabineros.
