Cuba sets date for elections for deputies to the National Assembly

The Council of State summoned the Cuban voters today to elect the deputies for the National Assembly of Popular Power (ANPP), according to official media on the Island today.

The new phase of the process will take place on March 26, 2023 and its call is made in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic and Law No. 127 Electoral Law, of July 13, 2019, according to the official gazette. Granma.

The Cuban electoral process started last sunday with the election of the delegates to the municipal assemblies of Popular Power.

The National Electoral Council (CEN) reported that participation in said elections was 68.58%, the lowest since 1976 when this type of voting began on the Island.

Among the powers of the National Assembly and its deputies is the election of the president of the republic, a position to which the current head of state, Miguel Díaz-Canel, can run for a second term of five years.
