The most recent cases were registered in Allende and Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato; in Morelia, Michoacán, and in Calpan, Guadalupe Victoria and Jonotla, Puebla.
Child marriages –according to this investigation– continue to occur with the participation of the authorities, since “civil registry officials, justices of the peace and municipal trustees are some of the public servants who, through different mechanisms, guarantee that girls and boys live together or with someone older, despite the prohibition of the law”.
“Only in Guerrero, justices of the peace – members of the Judiciary – have issued 36 minutes from 2015 to 2022 to support the fact that two minors live together of their own free will, according to the Superior Court of Justice of Guerrero,” the report points out. .
To the civil registries and justices of the peace are added the municipal trustees, officials who give their endorsement for girls and boys to join informally, according to the investigation.
The United Nations Children’s Fund, in English, better known as Unicef, highlights that this practice is a clear reflection of existing social and cultural norms and one of the most widespread forms of sexual abuse, exploitation and violence, mainly against girls.
