CABEI has disbursed 415 million dollars to the Ortega dictatorship so far in 2022

Nicaraguans in Costa Rica demand that CABEI "immediately suspend disbursements" to Ortega

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), under the presidency of Dante Mossi, has disbursed 415 million dollars to the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo from January to November 2022.

Through his Twitter account, the president of the financial institution detailed the amount of money that has been disbursed to the member countries of the region.

El Salvador is the nation that has received the most money from CABEI with 510 million dollars, in second place is Costa Rica with 428 million dollars and in third place is Nicaragua with 415 million dollars.

Of the total disbursed to the Ortega and Murillo regime, 352.58 million dollars are directed to finance the “X Program for the Expansion and Improvement of Highways.” The million-dollar loan was signed on June 13, between CABEI and the Nicaraguan Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.

The loan granted by the organization to be repaid over a 15-year term was expeditiously approved by the National Assembly on June 28 with 89 votes in favor, zero against, and two present, among the 91 deputies that make up Parliament. .

CABEI disbursements oxygenate the Nicaraguan dictatorship with the discretionary use of funds, a practice of the regime to maintain its parallel discourse that everything is fine in the country and marching in the right direction, a situation contrary to the reality that plagues the Nicaraguan people .

Since the beginning of the sociopolitical, economic and human rights crisis in 2018, the agency has not stopped disbursements to the Ortega and Murillo administration.

Opponents repudiate CABEI’s relationship with the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship

In addition, Nicaraguan political organizations have repeatedly accused Dante Mossi of “exceeding” his support for the Daniel Ortega regime.

Faced with this accusation, the Honduran economist indicated that CABEI does not ignore the issue of human rights in Nicaragua, nor are they blind to this issue, but that the financial entity “does not attend to these types of issues.”

CABEI has provided more than three billion dollars in loans to Ortega after 2015. The flows of money for the Nicaraguan dictatorship became larger after the sociopolitical crisis that began in April 2018.
