MIAMI, United States. — The well-known opponent and Cuban political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer García continues to be the object of abuse by the Castro regime. This was stated this Thursday by his sister, Ana Belkis Ferrer García, who denounced that the political police reviewed and appropriated several letters and writings from the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) during his wife’s most recent visit to prison. of Mar Verde, in the province of Santiago.
The event occurred during a conjugal visit, a right that the inmate was deprived of for more than six months.
“Yesterday, the communist dictatorship paid a conjugal visit to Ferrer after more than six months of refusing this right. When Nelva Ismarays Ortega Tamayo left the meeting, Castro agents took away the correspondence sent to the members of the family, as well as written complaints after some 16 months without being able to write because of the prohibition of having paper and pencil,” said the sister. of the UNPACU leader in social networks.
Using the opponent’s account, Ana Belkis revealed that the regime’s agents “read the letters and returned some.”
“The complaints and the letters to her children Martha Beatriz Ferrer Cantillo and José Daniel Ferrer Cantillo, as well as the one sent to her brother Luis Enrique Ferrer García, were shamelessly stolen, reaffirming the brutal and repressive nature of such a criminal dictatorship, a violation of the privacy of others and all human rights,” said Ferrer’s sister, who lives in the United States.
Ana Belkis maintained that her brother sent her a letter where “he sends a strong and fraternal hug and his eternal gratitude to all the brothers in struggle and ideas, friends and supportive people, whom he assures will never disappoint.”
The opponent’s sister stressed that his wife “found him a little more physically recovered, with better coloration on his skin and not so extremely thin.”
José Daniel Ferrer has been deprived of his liberty since July 11, 2021. That day, the UNPACU leader and one of his sons were arrested when they tried to join the anti-government demonstrations that took place in the province during that historic day.
