Alberto Fernandez: "This country is going to stand up"

President Alberto Fernandez swore in the new Minister of Transportation, Diego Giuliano, and stated that he has “no doubts” that the country “is going to stand up”.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in the White Room of Casa Rosada, where Fernández remarked that the Government “is going to work very united and very together” because “this country is going to stand up.”

Giuliano took over to replace Alexis Guerrera, who resigned for health reasons.

“We have better times ahead, the time of the pandemic has passed, but the time of war continues to complicate us a bit,” he said, referring to the war in Europe, although he bet that “we are going to work very united, very together , because this country is going to stand up, I have no doubt”.

For his part, Giuliano declared in a press conference to the journalists accredited in Government House that the management “has continuity in the Ministry.”

“Meoni was the first to call us to carry out a modernization plan in every sense,” he said, recalling that the previous government decided to “eliminate subsidies” for transportation “in the interior” of the country and the President “was recovering them “, and noted that” the Compensatory Fund rose 1,900%.

“This year it was 46 billion pesos and next year it will be 85 billion pesos”Giuliano stated.

The official explained that “the increase in the rate in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and the increase in the Compensatory Fund is done to get out of this distorting picture of the system,” he explained and emphasized that transportation in its four modes, air , maritime, railway and automotive, constitute the “veins of federalism” for “the development of regional economies.”

Giuliano indicated that there is “a permanent dialogue with the more than 40 transport unions, with meetings that are essential, with dialogue and listening with the workers and with those who give work, with government entities, with governors and mayors.”

Regarding the Waterway, he emphasized that the President “created a management and control entity in which the seven coastal provinces participate, and which is based in Rosario“, which is “administered by a State management and that the result is very positive, recognized by the users of the system and by the governors”.

On the other hand, he pointed out that the SUBE card “is in the Budget law, it has already reached 47 cities, Río Gallegos being the last one”, and pointed out that the objective is for it to be in “the entire interior of the country”

Giuliano worked as Secretary of TransportationTherefore, his appointment guarantees the continuity of the modernization plan, the policy and the management team of the ministry.

Previously, he had served as deputy executive director at the National Transport Regulation Commission (CNRT), a central state body for the supervision and control of cargo and passenger transport. In addition, he was a Rosario councilor in two periods: 2009-2013 and 2013-2017.
