a note from telam which addresses the problem of Afghan women in the Taliban government was awarded by the Association of Argentine Journalistic Entities (Adepa) in the Human Rights category in the 33rd edition of the annual “Adepa Journalism Awards” contest, it was reported this Thursday.
The work of Marianela Mayera journalist from the International section of Télam, was in second place in that category behind the work of Celina Mutti Loverafrom the newspaper La Capital de Rosario, author of “The visitors: stories of the women who take care of the prisoners”.
In the note titled “Afghans relive a nightmare after the imposition of the full veil by the Taliban”Mayer described the situation imposed by the Taliban order so that women fully cover your body and face in publicdecree that supposed the definitive break of 20 years of women’s rights in the country.

The journalistic piece maintains that, during the first nine months of Taliban rule,19 million Afghans found themselves excluded from employment -except for some specific jobs such as health or teaching- and deprived of secondary education and sports practice, in addition to being segregated in public spaces and not being able to travel alone.
648 journalists, photojournalists and cartoonists from all over the country participated in the 2022 edition of the Adepa Awards, with a total of 1,801 works published between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 15, 2022, to the winners in the 24 categories that make up the 33rd edition of the contest.
Among the categories are Freedom of the Press; Social Solidarity; Political Journalism; Ecology and Environment; Caricatures and Illustrations; Education; Culture and History; Sport; Infographics and visual journalism; Media Coverage; and Innovation in Digital Content, among others.
