For the holidays in Cuba there will be extended meat dough, Bom Bom cream, rum and some pork

Pork, cheese, ice cream, beer and rum are some of the products included in the “special packages” that the government has begun to sell to Cuban families on the eve of the end-of-year holidays.

The celebrations will be even more austere than usual due to the critical level of supply that the country is experiencing, both due to the suspension of imports and due to insufficient local production, which is not keeping up with demand. The response of the authorities to alleviate the shortage this December has been the preparation of baskets of inputs that depend to a large extent on the availability of products in each location.

In the municipalities of Matanzas and Cárdenas, a module for the regulated sale of five pounds of pork, a fundamental ingredient in dinners on December 31, will be offered starting next Monday, December 5, at a price of 190 pesos per pound.

A bottle of rum will also be sold in the provincial capital and in Jovellanos, reported to the official newspaper Giron the coordinator of food programs and objectives of the local government, Geobel Quintero Hernández. However, she warned that the composition of the packages for the rest of the Matanzas municipalities will depend on the availability of the livestock modules and the inventories of the food companies. “We can report that we have 14 tons of beef committed for sale to the population,” said the spokesperson.

The offer also includes syrups, candies, “extended meat dough” and other inputs that depend on local supply, insisted the coordinator, who announced that the sale of these modules will be noted on page 14 of the supply book.

In Hundred firesthis month the delivery to the wineries of the food that will make up the “special packages” began, with a bottle of soda and a 700-milliliter bottle of rum, but that are not found in the standard basket and their availability is limited in the stores.

The Business Group of Commerce of Cienfuegos reported on Facebook that the commercialization began this Tuesday in the rural areas of the main municipality and in the next few days it will be extended to the wineries of the city.

Alexandre Corona Quintero, governor of the province, assured that dairy products and a gallon of ice cream will be included for about 161,000 families in the province, as long as “production stability” is maintained. For the municipality of Cienfuegos alone, according to the official’s commitment, the company and the pork producers have ready some 400 tons of meat for free sale and hope that it “reaches as many people as possible” at a price of 200 pesos. The pound.

Half a kilogram of cheese, Bom Bom cream, beef mincemeat, fish sausage and poultry meat, as well as root vegetables, rice, beans and tomatoes will also make up the promised packages, although nothing guarantees that the municipal authorities or companies can be at the height of the distribution.
