Residents of the La Ureña and Laura Marie sectors, in Santo Domingo Este, demanded that the Government provide these communities with various services, including a health center, paving and street lighting, a police station, a multipurpose facility, as well as a police detachment, since they feel sheltered by crime and the Police do nothing.
The protesters demanded that the authorities establish patrols in the area, since they say that they cannot leave early to work because they are robbed.
“Here you can’t leave at 5:00 in the morning for work, because you get robbed right in front of your house. What we are experiencing in this sector with the electricity and drinking water service is a desperate situation,” said the merchant and community leader Richard Bidó Montero.
They also called on President Luis Abinader to name more teachers in schools.
Bidó, who served as a spokesman for the community, called on the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Manuel Jiménez, to fulfill the promise he made to them in the campaign, to buy land for a multipurpose facility where young people can practice sports and people can recreate.
“Since the trustee has not given the answer we need, we appeal to President Luis Abinader to build us a multipurpose and a court. We also demand more patrols, here in La Ureña, because there is a very strong crime here, ”he said.
