Minister Cerda expects prompt approval of the PGU in the Chamber of Deputies and plans to start payments for the third week of February

Minister Cerda expects prompt approval of the PGU in the Chamber of Deputies and plans to start payments for the third week of February

The Senate approved yesterday and dispatched to the Chamber of Deputies the project that creates the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU). The Minister of Finance, Rodrigo Cerda, valued the vote of the Corporation and stated that, in the event that the Lower House supports the initiative on Wednesday, as it came out of the Senate, the PGU payments may be made as of the third week of February.

“The only thing we need is that on Wednesday, we go to the Chamber of Deputies, and they approve what came out of the Senate today. We hope that will be the case, we have seen a good atmosphere,” Cerda said in conversation with 24 hours.

The Secretary of State stated that, if the Chamber of Deputies approves the project on that date, “it would allow us to be able to pay from the third week of February to all those people who are in the Pilar Solidario system.”

Cerda explained that “one of the important things that we have approved today is the increase in coverage.”

“For that, we include people who may not be retired, who continued to work, who never received a pension and who did not have help from the State. For this, we are going to have a period in which we are going to require their data, and once we require them, then we will start making the payments. It will take a little more time, “said the minister.

PGU

The Senate yesterday approved the initiative unanimously in general, as well as the regulations that were not subject to indications or modifications.

The PGU replaces the Pilar Solidario and seeks to benefit 2.4 million people. The initiative proposes a maximum contribution of $185,000, for all adults over 65 years of age or older who are not in the richest 10% of the population.

All those who have a base pension less than or equal to $630,000 will receive the maximum amount, $185,000. Beneficiaries who have a base pension greater than $630,000 and less than $1,000,000, the amount will gradually decrease.
