AIRD addresses challenges to boost the industry

AIRD aborda retos para impulsar a la industria

Announces new investments of more than RD$60 billion by 2023 will translate into more job creation. In 2022 the investment of the sector was RD$79 billion

Establishing world-class companies, strengthening public-private cooperation and advancing in the circular economy and environmental sustainability are some of the challenges facing the Dominican industrial sector, said the president-elect of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD). , Julio Virgilio Brache.

Two other challenges are increasing foreign trade and productive linkages. Brache said that these five challenges must be addressed together with government institutions, society and all productive sectors.

When talking about these challenges, he explained that it is necessary for business practices to correspond more and more with a culture of quality, technology and innovation, focused on knowledge management.
He indicated that the sustainable development of the nation requires the existence of spaces for agreement and collaboration between the productive sector and the Government.

He said that they will support the creation of integrated solid waste management systems. “We are aware that it is a process that involves us all: society, productive sectors, academia, central government, local governments and the media, as it is a conscious and deliberate cultural change, in favor of us and future generations. “, said.

Regarding foreign trade, Brache stressed that it is necessary to take into account the sensitivities that could affect the productive sectors as a consequence of the implementation of the various free trade agreements (with Caricom, Central America, the United States and Europe) that have signed the country.

“This makes it necessary for us to resume the spaces for planning and discussing strategies focused on continuing to modernize the national productive apparatus to continue creating sectors and companies that are capable of competing not only in this, but also in export markets,” he said.

Brache spoke at the AIRD awards ceremony, where he recognized the extraordinary contributions of companies, institutions and industrialists, in an event in which the management reports and the new board of directors were presented.

For the new president of AIRD, productive chains are one of the most significant axes in the search for competitiveness and increased productivity.

He added that they will boost this with the local manufacturing sector with free zones, with companies in the tourism sector qualified under the Tourism Promotion Council (Confotur) and with companies approved in the border development zone.
