Editorial Radio Panama. Some 224 pieces of Cocobolo wood were seized and two people were apprehended, during a raid carried out by the National Police through the National Directorate of the Environmental, Rural and Tourist Police and the Ministry of My Environment, in the township of Pacora.
In the middle of the proceedings, the Police located the wood (Cocobolo – Dalbergia Retusa) in a pick-up car and in a container in the Las Garzas sector.
Deputy Commissioner Elvin Ortíz, head of the Environmental Police, indicated that this wood is protected by national and international laws, because it is on the verge of extinction, it was transferred to the Ministry of Environment for custody and corresponding procedures.
The wood was placed under the orders of the competent authorities for due process.
He stressed that they continue to be committed to the conservation of the environment, in safeguarding protected areas, which is why they work together with officials from the Ministry of the Environment to sanction those who engage in this type of illegal activity.
