Brazil deposited, with the Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg, France, a letter of adhesion to the Convention on Cybercrime, also known as the Budapest Convention. This concludes the country’s accession process to the agreement, which aims to facilitate international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime. The information was disclosed this Wednesday (30th), in a joint note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The Budapest Convention brings together a large number of countries with which Brazil shares most cases of international legal cooperation currently being processed and serves as a basis for collaboration against a wide variety of crimes carried out via cybernetics. Adding to 67 members, the country will have an additional tool to combat cybercrime, which requires swift means of international cooperation, through which the responsible bodies can request and share the necessary evidence.
Brazilian authorities will thus have faster access to electronic evidence produced under foreign jurisdiction, which will have a positive impact in terms of criminal conviction of cyber crimes.
