The National Vaccine Advisory Commission recommends reinforcing vaccination in people over 50 years of age and immunosuppressed people with a dose of vaccine against covid-19 from the end of March 2023.
The National Vaccine Advisory Commission met to consider the relevance of booster doses against covid-19. The evolution of the cases at a global, regional and national level was analyzed, with emphasis on hospital admissions, CTI and deaths. The convenience of a change of vaccines to those adapted to the current predominant variant, Ómicron, was also considered.
From the data presented, it can be deduced that the safety profile of the vaccines continues to be favorable to the recommendation. The vaccine effectiveness during the period of circulation of Ómicron has been good with a marked difference in the mortality rate between those not vaccinated and those who received 2, 3 and 4 doses.
It was concluded that for the moment there would be no major benefits in a change of vaccines to be recommended, although the evidence arising from the application of vaccines adapted to variants in populations (other countries) will continue to be evaluated.
Therefore, as a result of the analysis, the Commission emphatically recommends continuing with the vaccination against covid-19 with the corresponding doses according to the population group to which it belongs (children, adolescents, youth and adults).
In turn, it recommends reinforcing vaccination in people over 50 years of age and immunosuppressed people according to the population group to which they belong with a dose of vaccine against covid-19 from the end of March 2023.
