The First Sentencing Court of Cochabamba sentenced Jhasmani Torrico to eight years in prison, also known as the “torturer lawyer”, after being accused of forming a consortium with judges, prosecutors, police officers and jurists to benefit the defendants who came to their services.
The ruling was issued this Wednesday, after more than three hours of hearing in which the allegations of the defendants and the Prosecutor’s Office were debated. The full sentence for this case will be read on Monday, in which nine people were charged.
Five of those involved were sentenced, among them is the lawyer Torrico, who received eight years in prison. The other sentences were 5, 3 and 2 years. While four people were acquitted of all guilt.
In 2009, when the investigation began, lThe Prosecutor’s Office charged the accused for the crime of consortium, but during the trial it was changed to bribery, but the name of the case remained in “Consortium”.
Before entering his audience, Jhasmani Torrico, true to his style, gave a controversial statement to the Cochabamba media: “If they convict me, they confirm that I have done what I wanted with this judicial power for more than 22 years”. In addition, he denounced that under torture they forced him to testify against judges and prosecutors with the promise of dismissing his wife’s case.
