Machinery and equipment industry sales fall by 9.4%

Industrial activity advances in August and expectations remain optimistic

Sales by the Brazilian industry of machinery and equipment totaled R$ 26.2 billion in October, a drop of 9.4% compared to the same month last year. Compared to September, there was also a decrease of 10.4%. In the accumulated result for the year, from January to October, sales totaled R$ 262.6 billion, 5.1% below that registered in the same period of 2021. The data, released today (30), are from the Brazilian Machinery Industry Association and Equipment (Abimaq).Machinery and equipment industry sales fall by 9.4%

The sector sold abroad, in October, US$ 1.10 billion in equipment, an amount 24.2% higher than that registered in the same month of 2021. In relation to September, exports were 6.4% higher. In the accumulated result for the year, from January to October, sales abroad totaled US$ 10.02 billion, 25.1% above the registered in the same period of last year.

“This is the sixth consecutive month in which foreign sales have reached more than US$ 1 billion. This shows a strong pace in performance, these data have not been observed in this magnitude since mid-2012”, highlighted the Abimaq, in the published balance sheet.

Imports totaled US$ 2.17 billion in October, 3.5% less than in September, and 10.9% more than in the same month of the previous year. In the accumulated result for the year (January to October), purchases from abroad reached US$ 20.37 billion, 13% above that registered in the same period of 2021.
