MIAMI, United States. — The Union of Latin American Parties (UPLA) issued a resolution in support of the fight for the democratization of Cuba and the immediate release of political prisoners on the Island.
The document urges leaders and political parties in Latin America to speak out before the media and governments about the human rights violations that occur in the Caribbean country, subject to the dictates of the Communist Party (PCC).
The resolution also addresses the need for a democratizing process that puts an end to the serious social and economic crisis that the Island is going through.
The UPLA also demands the immediate release of almost 2,000 people —specifically the cases of the 122 political prisoners— who are in prison in Cuba for crimes that do not exist in democratic countries, such as peaceful protest.
That organization also asked its member parties to support the campaign of the National strikewhich has been called by political prisoners and Cuban civil society to put an end to all kinds of citizen cooperation with the Castro regime.
The Union of Latin American Parties (UPLA) is the regional Latin American section of the International Democratic Union, an organization that brings together conservative, democratic and liberal parties.
The request for the pronouncement of the UPLA was made by the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) and the Christian Democratic Party of Cuba, members of this important regional organization.
The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance celebrated this important gesture of international support for the cause of freedom in Cuba, and invited all the political parties and leaders of the region to follow the example of the UPLA and demand the protection of human rights and democracies of the Cuban people.
