After several controversies and a postponement, for this Wednesday the debate on the motion of censure against the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez. She will be the first to face a debate of this nature in the government of Gustavo Petro.
(This is how the accounts are for the motion of censure against the Minister of Mines).
The political trial, cited by representatives to the Chamber of the Radical Change party, responds to “negative effects” of Vélez’s comments regarding hydrocarbons, but it seems that he will not be successful, because the opposition is a minority: does not have the necessary votes and because a motion of censure has never prospered in Colombia.
Among the reasons for his summons are his statements about the decline in the economy, the idea of importing gas from Venezuela and stopping contracting future operations to explore and exploit new hydrocarbon deposits.
(Minminas denies that mining and oil will be ended).
One of the main reasons why they cite it is because they consider that “continues to be an activist in the ministry”, according to members of the opposition. In addition, they accuse her of generating “economic panic with its irresponsible announcements”mentions Carolina Arbeláez, representative to the Chamber for the Radical Change party and who leads the initiative.
“Minister Irene Vélez is not a woman qualified for the position, she who is going to teach in the faculty of human sciences, but not to direct one of the most important ministries in this country. With her excuse of protecting the environment, she is going to make us import gas from the Venezuelan dictatorship ”, added Polo Polo when they announced the summons to the debate.
(They demand appointment of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez).
Regarding the summons, the minister stated: “In response to a summons from Congress, I will be rendering accounts as a servant of the Colombians. MinEnergía advances in reducing energy rates, reviewing hydrocarbon contracts and building the Energy Transition Roadmap. We continue until the sun goes out!”
Attending summons of #Congress I will be rendering accounts as a servant of the Colombians. #MinEnergyAvanza in reducing energy rates, reviewing hydrocarbon contracts and building the Energy Transition Roadmap.
